Central Academy of Fine Arts

The Central Academy of fine arts is the only higher school of fine arts directly under the Ministry of education. It was established in April 1950 by the merger of the national Peiping Academy of fine arts and the three fine arts departments of North China University. Mao Zedong named the college. Xu Beihong, Jiang Feng, Wu Zuoren, Gu Yuan and Jin Shangyi served as presidents successively. The current Secretary of the Party committee is Comrade Yang Li, the current president is Professor Pan Gongkai, a famous painter and art historian, and the current director of the Academy's academic committee is Professor Jin Shangyi, a famous oil painter. The history of Beiping art college can be traced back to 1918. The famous educator Cai Yuanpei actively advocated the establishment of the National Beijing art school, which is the first national art education institution in Chinese history and the beginning of modern art education in China. The predecessor of the Fine Arts Department of North China University is the "Luyi" Fine Arts Department, which was founded in Yan'an in 1938. At present, the Central Academy of fine arts has six professional colleges, namely, the school of modeling, the school of Chinese painting, the school of design, the school of architecture, the school of humanities, and the school of urban design, as well as the school of continuing education, the Hainan teaching practice base, and the affiliated secondary school of fine arts. At present, the academy has seven majors (painting, sculpture, art design, fine arts, architecture, photography, and animation), one of them In 2003, it was approved to set up a post doctoral mobile station of art science. The major covers oil painting, Chinese painting, print, mural, sculpture, animation, graphic design, product design, fashion design, photography art, digital media art, environmental art design, architectural design, art history theory, design art history theory, art management, design management, Museology, art archaeology, art education and more than 20 disciplines. The college enrolls technical secondary schools every year Students (attached middle school), junior college students (Adult Education), undergraduate students, master students, doctoral students and all kinds of advanced students. There are 145 professors and associate professors, 91 lecturers, more than 3500 undergraduates and postgraduates, and more than 100 international students from more than ten countries. The Central Academy of fine arts has a well-equipped library, art gallery and other teaching facilities. With more than 300000 books and picture books, the library is the largest professional art library in China. The museum also has precious works of art, regularly holds exhibitions of the works of teachers and students, and undertakes art exhibitions with high academic level at home and abroad. The Central Academy of fine arts independently edited, published and distributed two national first-class academic journals, art research and world art. In September 2001, the Central Academy of fine arts and the attached middle school, as the key cultural construction projects during the ninth five year plan, were completed. The campus covers an area of 200 mu and the first phase covers an area of 76000 square meters. In 2004, the construction of the second phase of nearly 50000 square meters of buildings, including the new art museum, the design teaching building and the new student dormitory, began. In October 2005, the new dormitory building was put into use. It is expected that the designed teaching building will be put into use in October 2006, and the art museum will be completed in June 2007. In 2002, Xiaoying carving and Creation Institute (covering an area of 20 mu) was incorporated into our college. It is planned to build 30000 square meters of new school buildings in Xiaoying, which is scheduled to start construction in 2006. In April 2005, our college bought 205 mu of land in Yanjiao, and built 73000 square meters of new school buildings as a new campus. The construction has started and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2006. Since 2004, the college has tried out the credit system teaching management and the new teaching calendar, with 38 teaching weeks and three semesters each year. The first semester is 20 weeks, which mainly arranges compulsory courses stipulated by the school and various professional colleges; the second semester is 10 weeks, which mainly arranges various professional courses and out of town teaching courses; the third semester is 8 weeks, which mainly arranges professional elective courses and public elective courses by the school, so students can choose cross professional courses according to their hobbies and professional development needs. The Central Academy of fine arts has always insisted on taking talent training as the fundamental task of the school, constantly improving the talent training system, adjusting the professional structure, broadening the professional channels, setting up new teaching curriculum system, and updating the curriculum content.
