[quality and taste]: the root tuber is thick, 10-26cm long, 1-2cm in diameter; the surface is light gray yellow, with shallow longitudinal wrinkles; the quality is solid; the taste is bitter.

[plant morphology]: perennial climbing herb, up to 5M high. The upper part of stem twines. Leaves usually opposite, broadly ovate, 8-30cm long, 2.5-10cm wide, apex acute or acuminate, base shallowly cordate, entire or microwavy, veins 7-ll, petiole 4-6cm long. Flowers axillary; with a lanceolate bracteoles under flowers; perianth segments 4, lanceolate, yellow green, purple veined. Capsule obovate and flat. The flowering period is from May to June and the fruiting period is from July to August.
