Annual herb, 50-80 cm high. The taproot is long conic with fine fibrous roots. Stem prismatic cylindrical, 4-5 longitudinal groove, green, sometimes purple, upper trigeminal branches. Single leaf alternate, herbaceous, with petioles 4-15 cm long and 1.5-7.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, margin irregularly serrated and wrinkled, 4-5 pairs of lateral veins, concave above and convex below. Flowers solitary in leaf axils, lavender; calyx 5-lobed, lobes base heart-shaped; corolla funnel-shaped, diameter about 3 cm, inner surface of tube with 5 purple spots at base. Capsule globose, ca. 2 cm in diam., surrounded by 5 persistent sepals. Seeds small, light brown. It blooms in summer.

Born in the field, wasteland, around the house garden, fence edge. It is distributed in Yunnan and Guangxi, and cultivated in Guizhou.
