[source / prescription] it is the dried underground tuber of Codonopsis ovalaceakurz. In autumn, dig tubers, wash the soil and dry them in the sun.

[character] the product is irregular oval, round, long diameter 2-3cm, short diameter 13-28mm. The surface is grayish brown, grayish white or light brown with irregular fibrous root marks. After peeling off, the outer skin appears white, yellowish white or brownish yellow, wrinkled, with longitudinal or transverse grooves and slightly raised fibrous root marks. There are stem marks on the upper part and fine ring texture near the stem mark. The quality is relatively solid. After crushing, the section is yellowish white or pink white, slightly horny. The taste is sweet and bitter.

[identification] (1) the powder is almost white. There are many starch granules, which are round, oval, helmet shaped, umbilical point shaped, herringbone shaped and fissure shaped, with a diameter of 4-13 μ M. the compound granules are composed of 2-3 granules. Inulin is numerous, fan-shaped, scattered in parenchyma cells, with a radius of 21-43 μ m and a fan amplitude of 29-54 μ M. The diameter of milk duct was 5-29 μ M. The diameter of reticulated duct is 18-61 μ m, and the threaded duct is occasionally seen. The fragments of columnar tissue are light brown yellow.

(2) Take 2G of crude powder, add 20ml of water, soak in 60 ℃ water bath for 120 minutes, shake and filter when necessary, and the filtrate is used for the following tests: ① take 1ml of filtrate, add 1ml of newly prepared alkaline tartaric acid test solution, and heat in boiling water bath for 5-10 minutes to form reddish brown precipitate. ② Take 1ml of filtrate, add 3-5 drops of 5% naphthol ethanol solution, shake well, slowly add 0.5ml sulfuric acid along the pipe wall, and a purple red ring is formed at the interface between the two solutions.

(3) Take 2G of crude powder, add 20ml of petroleum ether (boiling range 30-60 ℃), soak in cold or reflux for 120 minutes, and filter. The filtrate is placed in an evaporating dish, the petroleum ether is volatilized, the residue is dissolved in 1ml glacial acetic acid, 5 drops of acetyl chloride test solution and several zinc chloride crystals are added, the solution is light red or purplish red when heated slightly.
