[plant morphology] Populus alba

Trees, 10-35 m high. Young shoots densely white tomentose; winter buds conic, white tomentose, or only marginally villous. The leaves of long and short branches are broadly ovate or triangular ovate, 5-12 cm long and 3-5 cm wide, with sharp apex, round or subcordate base, 3-5 palmately lobed or undivided, with obtuse teeth. When young, both sides are densely covered with white villi, later the upper villi fall off and the lower ones do not fall off. The leaves of short branches are smaller, ovate or elliptic ovate, and the petiole is 2-5 cm long Cm, with white down. The male inflorescence is 3-7 cm long; bracts have long eyelashes; stamens are 6-10; female inflorescence is 2-4 cm long; stigmas are 2,2-lobed and red. Capsule, glabrous.

Born on the hillside. It is distributed in Northeast, North China, northwest and Guangxi.

[function indications] expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antiasthmatic, cough. Treatment of chronic tracheitis, cough, asthma.

[clinical application] treatment of chronic tracheitis

1115 cases were observed in different seasons. The average effective rate was about 88% and the marked effective rate was about 52%. It is effective for cough, phlegm and asthma, but its antiasthmatic effect is a little poor. The effective time is mostly 3-5 days after taking the medicine. The curative effect on deficiency cold type is better, followed by lung dryness type, and phlegm heat type is worse. The curative effect of the elderly is higher. The shorter the course of disease, the better the curative effect. Dosage form and usage: take 1:2 syrup three times a day, 10 ml each time. Two injections: intramuscular injection, once a day, 1 ml each time (including 2 g of crude drug). Three extract pills, 10 pills each time, taken three times a day (the total amount is equivalent to 25 grams of crude drug per day); some cases were also given injections or supplements (5 yuan each time, three times after brewing). Preliminary observation showed that there was no significant difference in the efficacy of various dosage forms. Side effects: no serious side effects, only a few patients with stomach discomfort, dry mouth, diarrhea, mild facial edema and other reactions, individual rash; generally mild, does not affect the treatment.
