Spiny herbs. Rhizome cylindrical, about 2.5 cm in diameter, nodule and hard thorn, lateral roots. The leaves are leathery, 15-45 cm long, halberd shaped or arrow shaped when young, with broad or narrow basal lobes, often wider than long when old, pinnate, heart-shaped at base, lanceolate, acuminate, with one main vein and thorns along dorsal vein; the petiole is cylindrical, 60-120 cm long, with thorns and sheath at base. The spathe is 20-35 cm long and blood red. The inflorescence is about 2.5 cm in length, 5-10 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width when bearing fruit. The flowers are bisexual and open from top to bottom. The berry is cone-shaped, 5-6-sided, grape like. The flowering period is summer and moon.

Born in wet valley, field and pond. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.
