Evergreen trees, up to 20 m high. The bark is gray white. Branchlets grayish brown, glabrous, with lenticels and leaf scars. Leaves alternate, oblong or oblong lanceolate, 10-24 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire, leathery; petiole 1.5-2.5 cm long, flowers solitary at the top of branches, large, fragrant; pedicel about 1 cm long; perianth 6-9 pieces, broad ovate, white and slightly purplish red, fleshy, juicy, covered with green bracts; stamens mostly, Anthers 2-locular, broadly linear; carpels numerous, clustered on top of receptacle. Aggregate fruit nearly spherical, about 4 cm long, very fleshy, dark red, mature wood, purple red. Seeds elliptic, dark purplish red. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from August to October.

It grows on the side of valley, stream or hillside. Distributed in Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.

After dehiscence, there were 2 dark purple red seeds and 1 gray white and oily cotyledon. It's good for dry and intact.
