Perennial herbs. The fibrous roots are white, silky, hollow, densely jointed, unbranched, and mixed with transverse rhizomes. Leaf blade linear lanceolate, 4-18 cm long, 3-8 mm wide, entire, soft and thick, green above, white near root. The pedicel is drawn from the leaf cluster. The flowers are unisexual, monoecious; the female flowers are sessile, mostly gathered in the lower layer of inflorescence, forming whorls; the male flowers have long stalks, with oval bracts of 3-5, whorled on the stem, mostly in 2 whorls; the calyx is 3 pieces, green; the petals are 3 pieces, large, white; the stamens are 12 pieces, anthers are yellow, filaments are short and hypertrophy; the carpels are mostly flat.
