[source / prescription] this product is the dry root tuber of Stephania cephalanta Hayata, a family of tetrandraceae. It is collected in autumn and winter, removed secondary roots, washed, sliced and dried.

[character] the product is irregular block, 2-7cm in diameter and 0.2-1.5cm in thickness. The outer skin is dark brown with wrinkles and fibrous root marks. The cut surface is white or grayish white, and veins (vascular bundles) can be seen, some of which are slightly arranged in a ring. The material is hard and brittle, easy to break, and the section is powdery. It tastes bitter.
