[plant morphology] Shandan

Perennial herbs, 40-60 cm high. Bulb ovoid, white, ca. 2 cm long, with a few scales, scales intercalated ovate or broadly elliptic lanceolate, jointless, apex membranous. Stem slender, erect, green. Leaves sessile; linear or linear lanceolate, narrower above middle, 2-7 cm long, 3-6 mm wide, apex acute. The flowers are straight, single or divided into 3 or 4 branches at the top of the stem, each with one flower. Flowers 5-7.5cm in diameter, bright red; perianth 6 pieces, lanceolate, not retrovolved, with black purple spots on the inside of base; stamen 6, shorter than perianth, anther larger, slender round; pistil 1, ovary superior, 3-locular, without style. Capsule oblong elliptic, ca. 2 cm long, obtuse, apex flat. Seeds suborbicular, flat. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from August to September.

Growing on hillsides, hills, grasslands or shrubs. Distributed in Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.
