Twining liana, herbaceous. With large tuberous roots. Stem slender, angulate. Single leaf alternate; ovate, oblate or triangular ovate, base round, entire or shallow wavy, dark green above, gray green below; petiole peltate, 8-14 cm long. Flowers unisexual, dioecious; compound umbels axillary; total pedicels 7-9 cm long; flowers small, yellowish green; pedicels unequal; male sepals 6, 2-whorled; petals 3, broadly oblate ovate, fleshy; stamens 6, united into a column, apex discoid; female sepals and petals usually 3 or 4, isomorphic with male; pistil 1, stigma 5-lobed, discoid, ovary superior, 1-locular. Drupe obovate to globose. The flowering period is from June to July.

Born in the valley, ditch, roadside, steep forest edge. It is distributed in Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi.
