[source] it is the root of Populus qingbranensis.

[plant morphology] Populus qingbranensis, also known as baumannii, Tiebei tree.

Deciduous tree, 5-8m high. Bark rough, gray, fissured, branchlets usually smooth, glabrous. Leaflets ovate oblong to oblong lanceolate, 5-10 cm long and 2-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, base obliquely cuneate or rounded, entire, abaxially slightly hairy or nearly glabrous along veins; rachis cylindrical, sometimes with narrow wings between upper leaflets. Panicle terminal, 10-20 cm long, hairy; flowers small; sepals 5, persistent; petals 5, white; stamens 5, anthers yellow; pistil 1, ovary superior, style 3-lobed. Inflorescence pendulous, drupe subglobose, 3-4 mm in diameter, blood red, densely tomentose, containing a seed. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruiting period is September.

Like to grow in sunny hillside, valley of sparse forest or shrub grass. Distributed in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and other places.

This product is used in Sichuan folk as the root of Rhus chinensis. See "salt bran root" section.

[function indications] remove wind and detoxify. It is used to treat children's Yin contraction, and Jiuzi is rotten and itchy.
