[plant morphology] Nitraria microcarpa

Shrubs, 50-100 cm high. Stem erect or curved, much branched, tufted, sometimes recumbent, branchlets gray white, apex spinose. The leaves are small, 4-6, clustered on twigs, oblanceolate, fleshy, 6-12 mm long and 2-3.5 mm wide; the petioles are short, the cymes are terminal, the flowers are yellow white, the petals and calyx are 5 pieces, the petals are 4 pieces. Fruit is berry shaped drupe, nearly round, dark red when ripe, dark blue purple fruit juice. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from July to August.

It is found in the sandy land of saline alkali beach, beside rivers and canals, at the edge of Lake Basin, and in the salinized low sandy land. Distributed in Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places.
