[plant morphology] Acanthopanax giraldii
Deciduous shrub, up to 3 m high. Branches yellowish brown, densely setate needled. They are palmately compound, alternate; petioles 3-7 cm long, usually with 2-3 bristle like needling, with a round of reddish brown bristle like needling near the branches of the base; leaflets 5, rarely 3-4, sessile or subsessile, usually clustered with bristle like needling near the base; leaflets submembranous, obovate or oblanceolate, sometimes slightly rhombic, 2.5-5 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm wide, apex shorter Apex, base cuneate, margin irregularly doubly serrate, both surfaces smooth, lower main veins bristly when young. Umbels solitary, inserted at the top of branches; pedicels short; flowers numerous, very small; sepals 5, with inconspicuous 5-cleft teeth; petals 5, obovate; stamens 5; ovary inferior, 5-locular, style 5, lower part united, middle part separated. Berry subglobose, only 5-shuttle, style persistent. The flowering period is from May to July. The fruit period is from June to August.
It grows in mountain shrub forest. It is distributed in Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places.

[herbal medicine] the dried stem bark is thin and simple, with different lengths. The intact one is 20-30 cm long, 0.7-1.2 ha m in diameter and 0.5 mm in thickness. The outer surface is yellow, densely covered with brown or light yellowish brown bristles. There are protuberant buds on the stem bark, and the internodes are 5-13 cm long. The inner surface is yellow green or gray green, smooth. It is brittle and easy to break. The gas is weak and the taste is weak. The skin is complete, clean and has no heart.
It is mainly produced in Sichuan.
