[plant morphology] Unicorn

Perennial herbs. The tuber is ovoid or oval, 2-4cm in diameter, covered with small dark brown scales, and 20-40 fibrous roots at the upper end of the tuber. Leaf root, 1-4 pieces, halberd arrow shaped, different sizes, 9-45 cm long, 7-35 cm wide, apex acuminate, base arrow shaped, entire or slightly wavy, veins parallel, lateral veins extended to the edge of the network; petiole cylindrical, fleshy, 15-45 cm long. Pedicel 8-16 cm long, fleshy, green, often with purple longitudinal spots; fleshy inflorescence, the top extended into purple rod-shaped appendages, not beyond the Buddha flame bract; Buddha flame bract about 12-15 cm long, purple; flowers unisexual, monoecious, male inflorescence in the upper, female inflorescence in the lower, there is no flower Zone in the middle, separated by 5-8 mm, there are fleshy strip protrusion; no perianth; male flowers with Stamens 1-3, anthers sessile, connective slightly prominent; female ovary 1-locular, stigma sessile. The berry is about 1 cm long. The flowering period is from June to August. The fruit period is from July to September.

Born in the mountains and wet. Distributed in Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Jiangxi, Fujian and other places. It is cultivated in Liaoning, Jilin, Hubei, Jiangsu and other places.

[pharmacological action] it has a certain therapeutic effect on guinea pigs infected with human Mycobacterium tuberculosis (H37Rv). Compared with the control group, the effect is very significant. The effect increased with the increase of dosage. The toxicity was very low in mice, dogs and guinea pigs.

[function indications] it is used to treat snakebite, scrofula and traumatic injury.

[usage and dosage] external use: tamping.

[selection] ① treatment of snakebite: fresh Unicorn whole grass and a little water, pestle rotten applied to the wound.

② Treatment of scrofula: the whole grass of fresh Unicorn lotus is rotten, a little chicken protein is added, and the pestle is evenly applied to the affected area, once a day.
