Large deciduous shrub, 1-4 m high. The branches are dark red with longitudinal lenticels, and the young branches are densely stained yellow with short curly Tricholoma. Leaves opposite, kidney shaped ovate to ovate, 4-14 cm long, 4.5-12 cm wide, apex acute, acuminate, or round, base cordate or nearly truncate, entire or slightly undulate, or sparsely coarsely serrate, both sides densely pubescent, odorous: petiole densely covered with yellow or white trichomes. Cyme terminal; total pedicel 3-5 cm long, densely short curly hairy; secondary pedicel base with elliptic bracts; petiole with linear bracts; flowers white, slightly red halo, about 1.4 cm long; calyx bell shaped, purple green, outer densely pubescent, apex 5-lobed, lobes ovate triangular; corolla funnel-shaped, lobes 5; stamens 4, filaments thin. Anthers dorsifixed; pistil 1, ovary globose, glabrous, stigma 2-lobed. Drupe globose or obovate, blue black, enclosed in calyx. It blooms in summer.
