[plant morphology] Polygonatum odoratum

Perennial woody vines. Stem bark reddish brown; branchlets square, with stipule ring. Leaves opposite, ovate oblong or ovate elliptic, 7-12 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, apex acuminate or acute, base broadly cuneate, entire; petiole about 1 cm long; stipules membranous. The flowers are terminal loose corymbose cymes; calyx is 5-lobed, one of which is usually expanded into obovate leaf shape, white, stipitate, 7-8 cm long and 5-6 cm wide; corolla funnel-shaped, yellow, outside covered with filiform hairs, lobes 5, short pointed; stamen 5, disk fleshy; ovary inferior, 2-locular, with many ovules in each locule. Berry elliptic, stipitate, ca. 1 cm long, reddish brown. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from May to August.

It grows in the soil hillside, valley, Riverside Bush and sparse forest. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Taiwan.
