Saussurea crassifolia

[plant morphology] Perilla frutescens

Perennial herbs, 80-100 cm high. The root is long, reddish brown, conic or fusiform. Stem erect, quadrangular. Single leaf opposite, broad ovoid, 5-10 cm long, 4-8 cm wide, apex short pointed, base heart-shaped, margin coarsely serrated, both sides coarsely hairy or stellate hairy; petiole 2-6 cm long. Cymose; bracts lanceolate, salty narrow lanceolate; calyx tube ca. 1 cm long, apex with 5 spiny teeth; corolla white or pink, 2-lipped, longer than calyx tube, throat densely covered with most white hairs or stellate hairs, upper lip 2-lobed, arched, lower lip 3-lobed, outside densely hairy; stamens 4; style simple, stigma 2-lobed. Nutlets ovoid. The flowering period is July. The fruit period is from August to September.

It grows in mountain forest, forest edge shrub, river bank and valley. Distribution in Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei, Henan, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangdong and other places.
