Lin Zhaohua

Lin Zhaohua, born in Tianjin in 1936, is a director of Beijing People's Art Theater. He was a member and vice president of Beijing People's Art Committee, executive director of China Dramatists Association, and vice president of Beijing People's art from 1984 to 1998. At present, he is the director of Peking University drama Research Institute, part-time and visiting professor of Peking University, Communication University of China and Central Academy of drama.

Early experience

Born in Tianjin in 1936. In 1961, he graduated from the performance Department of the Central Academy of drama. Since 1978, he has been a drama director. In his early years, he entered Beijing People's art as an actor. He began to be a director in the late 1970s and has directed about 70 stage works so far.

Lin Zhaohua founded Lin Zhaohua drama studio in 1990, which is one of the few independent drama groups in China. He has created many avant-garde theater style stage works in his studio, which makes Lin Zhaohua's drama studio the most representative folk modern drama group in China. Lin Zhaohua also regularly invites major European theater directors and groups to China for rehearsals and drama workshops, such as famous German director Thomas vostmayer, former artistic director of French comedy house Jacques klassale, French dot troupe, British European troupe, French summer style Drama Festival workshop, etc. At the same time, he also plans and serves as artistic director of large-scale art festivals, such as Chekhov forever (2004) and Ibsen forever (2006), etc.

Since 1987, Lin Zhaohua has been invited to become a member of the international Brecht Association.
