Applicant: Yuexi County, Anhui Province
According to the records of Qianshan County annals, as early as the Han Dynasty, mulberry paper was produced in Qianshan County, Anhui Province, with a history of more than 1700 years. Because this paper originated in the Han Dynasty, also known as "Han paper". There are three specifications of mulberry paper, i.e. Dahan, Zhonghan and Xiaohan, which are all produced by hand. The whole process consists of material selection, cooking, picking, pulping, curtain fishing, baking and other links. The finished paper is soft, tensile, non breaking, non fading, mothproof, non-toxic, and strong water absorption. It is mainly used in calligraphy and painting, mounting, restoration of ancient books, packaging, umbrella making, etc. At present, the quality of mulberry paper produced in Guanzhuang town of Qianshan County and Maojianshan town of Yuexi county is excellent, which has basically reached the technological level of Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty after being tested by China Paper Research Institute. During the overhaul of the Forbidden City from 2004 to 2005, the mulberry paper handmade in Qianshan and Yuexi counties was widely used as a special material in the project.
Mulberry paper making is an ancient craft with high craft and historical and cultural value. It has been handed down from generation to generation, carefully improved and carefully protected, and is still in continuous improvement. Qianshan County and Yuexi County have formulated protection plans and are ready to take further specific measures to protect and inherit this ancient handicraft.
