Ruoqiang county belongs to Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, located in the southeast edge of Taklimakan Desert. Due to the remote distance and relative isolation between Ruoqiang county and its surrounding areas, Ruoqiang county has become one of the original and complete areas of folk music and dance. Among them, sanam, the most representative of Ruoqiang people, which has been handed down since ancient times, is deeply loved by the local people for its unrestrained, free and cheerful dancing posture, soul stirring and uplifting melody.

Ruoqiang people often hold colorful "maixirefu" activities, and Ruoqiang sainaim is the main dance event. Most folk artists in Ruoqiang county have their own unique dance skills.

Since 1993, large-scale entertainment activities such as "national unity bonfire maixilaifu" and "Youyuan maixilaifu" have been held almost every year in Ruoqiang county. In all kinds of celebration activities, the traditional dance Ruoqiang sanam is performed. Sanam of Ruoqiang has become an indispensable part of the cultural and entertainment life of Ruoqiang Uygur people.
