The custom of Chongyang in Shangcai County, Henan Province, is the living existence of the traditional folk ceremony of Chongyang.

In xuqixiejie, written by Wu Jun of Liang Dynasty in the Southern Dynasty, there is a story about "Sheng Zhuyu tied his arm and ascended the mountain to drink chrysanthemum wine" on September 9 to avoid disaster. It is said that Huan Jing, the hero of the story, ascended the mountain at Lugang, where Shangcai County is now located.

At present, the customs of Chongyang Festival in Shangcai are as follows: 1. Before Chongyang Festival, every family picks chrysanthemums to make wine for the next year. 2. On the eve of the Double Ninth Festival, every household sews and wears Cornus bags. 3. Every family should not eat meat and vegetables during the Double Ninth Festival. 4. In the morning of the Double Ninth Festival, every family climbs high, drinks chrysanthemum wine and eats Double Ninth cake. 5. When the old man is seventy-nine, his children and grandchildren share chrysanthemum wine; when the old man is sixty-three, his daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law send "Zaoshan".
