"Ga'er" in Tibetan means song and dance, music and dance. It is a kind of ceremonial song and dance of Tibetan. At first, it was performed by folk artists during festivals, and then gradually flowed into large temples around the country, becoming a necessary performance for large-scale religious activities in temples. Garzan dance has beautiful shape and unique music style. Now it is mainly performed in large-scale ceremonies and important occasions such as welcoming and seeing off the Panchen master. In Ali area, Ga'er dance and Xuan dance are collectively referred to as "Ga'er Xuan".

The music of Gar dance is free, broad and long, and its sculptural form is very strong. The dancers' movements are highly standardized, and the movements are intense and large, and the formation changes are diverse. The actors are all male, and there are three kinds of actors: garzhuba, garba and garben. Galjuba is a boy singer and dancer, Galba is a singer and dancer, and galben is the art director and executive director. Gaer dance can be divided into two types: gaer and gaer Lu. Gaer Lu is an art form of children's singing together. The performance is accompanied by instruments such as six string organ "zhanian", bamboo flute "lingu", Yangqin, Tieqin, GENKA and AIGA. Ga'er is divided into Bogar and Mogar. Bogar is a man's song and dance, while Mogar is a woman's song and dance. In fact, both kinds of songs and dances are performed by men, but their names are different.

Gaer is a living material to understand the customs, beliefs, rituals and other activities in Ali area, and an important art model to carry forward the national folk culture. It has the research value of folklore, history and culture. With the impact of modern economy and culture, facing the situation of aging talents and shrinking performance scale, gaer's performance is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
