Liushen Pill originated from Lei Zichun. During the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, Lei Zifan, a descendant of Lei family, obtained Liushen Pill prescription, expanded production and gained increasing reputation. Now it is a famous characteristic variety of Shanghai leiyunshang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. It is a national secret variety and also a national general protected variety of traditional Chinese medicine. It won the National Gold Award three times in 1979, 1984 and 1989.

Liushen Pill applies a unique theory of compatibility of traditional Chinese medicine: the medicinal materials used are not the most commonly used plant drugs, but animal and mineral drugs, and have certain toxicity. Only doctors who are familiar with the essence of traditional Chinese medicine theory can develop such a formula, which can not only retain the effective components of toxic medicinal materials, but also reduce the toxic and side effects of toxic medicinal materials. Compared with other traditional Chinese medicine, Liushen Pill has the characteristics of small dosage and fast onset. The dosage is only in milligrams; other traditional Chinese medicine usually takes weeks and months for a course of treatment, while Liushen Pill can play its role in a day and a half after taking it.

In terms of technique, Liushen Pill was made by hand from material selection to "Pan pill" (i.e. pill making). The selection of pearls is very strict.
