Brief introduction to the technique of Blue Clip valerian:
Applicant: Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province
Blue card printing is one of the four traditional printing and dyeing techniques in China. It is the source of block printing and dyeing in China. Lanjiavalerian technique was widely spread in Wenzhou City in the south of Zhejiang Province, and is still well protected and inherited in Cangnan County, Ruian and Yueqing.
Jiaxie originated in the Qin and Han Dynasties and flourished in the Tang and Song dynasties. In the yuan and Ming Dynasties, jiavalerian transformed to single blue, and finally only survived in southern Zhejiang. Taking Wenzhou as the center, jiavalerian radiated to some neighboring areas such as Taizhou and Lishui.
Lanjiavalerian was once a necessary article for folk marriage in southern Zhejiang. It takes indigo (made from the plant of Isatis indigotica) as the dye, Kunju Opera, Luantan opera, Peking Opera and other operas from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China as the main patterns, supplemented by auspicious patterns such as flowers, birds, insects and animals, and becomes the only existing isolated example of traditional Chinese dyed fabrics with opera characters as the main patterns.
Up to now, Wenzhou has completely preserved the technological processes of engraving, indigo making, printing and dyeing. In the 1970s, the dyeing workshops of lanjiaxie, which used to be all over the counties (cities and districts) of Wenzhou, were closed one after another. After that, the farmers in Cangnan set up dyeing workshops and operated intermittently, which had a positive impact on the inheritance and protection of the art.
