Jianshui County is located in the south of Yunnan Province. The Jianshui pottery, which is known as China's famous pottery, is produced in Wanyao village. The technique of firing Jianshui purple pottery in Wanyao village began in Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, but before that, Wanyao village was able to fire ordinary pottery in song and Yuan Dynasties, as evidenced by the remains of dragon kiln and pottery fragments of Yuan Dynasty. Wanyao village gets its name from firing pottery. At present, nearly 3000 people are engaged in pottery production. Jianshui pottery firing technology consists of mud making, hand drawing, wet decoration, carving and filling, high temperature firing, unglazed polishing and other processes. The clay used in Jianshui pottery is purple, so it is also called "Purple pottery". The finished product is lead-free, non-toxic, and has good air permeability. Its quality is as clear as a mirror and crisp as a chime. Jianshui pottery is decorated with traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. It is simple, elegant and full of culture.
