Introduction to bamboo paper making technology:
Applicant: Jiangle County, Fujian Province
Longqishan National Nature Reserve, Jiangle County, Fujian Province, is rich in Phyllostachys pubescens and paper-making raw materials. Jiangle has a long history of producing bamboo paper (also known as "maobian paper"), among which Longshan's "Xishan paper" is the most famous. This kind of paper has been famous all over the world as early as the Tang and Song Dynasties, and has a production history of more than 1000 years.
The manual production process of Xishan paper is complex, which consists of 28 processes, such as chopping bamboo, breaking cylinder, peeling, lime spreading, soaking, pickling, stripping bamboo hemp, pressing, dagger trough, stepping material, working trough (beating), paper making, dry paper, sorting and cutting. The Xishan paper is delicate and flexible, glossy and clean, with strong water absorption, long-term storage and strong ink absorption. It is used in calligraphy and painting, and the ink color is fixed but not easy to fade. In addition, Xishan paper can also be used to repair and print old books. When Sikuquanshu was compiled and printed during the reign of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty, Emperor Gaozong of Qing Dynasty once ordered the imperial ministers to print on Jiangle paper. Since modern times, Xishan paper has been exported to more than 20 countries and regions, such as Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, etc., and has been welcomed by people of all countries. Xishan handmade papermaking technology is an important branch of Chinese ancient handmade papermaking technology, which has important reference value in the research of Fujian and Chinese traditional handmade papermaking technology.
