Horse riding with sheep is a traditional competitive event shared by Uygur, Kazak, Kirgiz, Tajik and other nationalities in Xinjiang, which is widely distributed in Xinjiang. Generally speaking, the competition is held between two tribes or groups, and the winner is the one who "picks up" the sheep and arrives at the designated place safely.

Bachu county is a part of Daolang area in ancient times, which still retains some traditional customs reflecting the characteristics of fishing and hunting civilization. Carrying sheep is one of the most popular traditional sports in the county. As a kind of wrestling competitive activity on the horse, the competition has the characteristics of strong and brave, and can cultivate the brave spirit and strong, calm and resourceful character of the participants. Due to the high cost of raising horses for each family, the current folk activities of carrying sheep are decreasing and need to be protected.
