Duangu tune originated in the area along Weishan Lake in Weishan County, Shandong Province. As its transmission art is oral and psychological, no relevant historical literature has been found so far. However, its repertoire and singing are rich in Northern Jiangsu dialect, which seems to have a common origin with the folk "Xianghuo tune" in Northern Jiangsu. According to the old artists, it began in the reign of Tang Zhenguan (627-649) when Li Shimin, the king of Tang Dynasty, made a wish to invite the river god.
Duanguqiang is the ritual custom of fishermen in Weishan Lake in production and life, such as praying and sacrificing, tracing back history, celebrating birthday and blessing, and celebrating harvest. There are five steps: 1. Laying the altar; 2. Opening the altar with drums; 3. Inviting the gods; 4. Offering sacrifices to the gods; 5. Offering sacrifices to the gods. Duanguqiang music is a couplet style, and its singing structure is based on banqiang repetition style, which is a comprehensive style combining banqiang style and Lianqu style. The banqiang part is based on the two tunes of cross rhyme and seven character rhyme. The main features of the aria are the mode structure of "Gong" and "Zheng" changes in the pentatonic scale, the large beating range of melody, the long and euphemistic drawl, and the unique style of Shuixiang.
There are many repertoires of duanguqiang performance, which is a comprehensive art of rap and dance. It carries a lot of important cultural information and original memory of the lake area, and retains the folk arts and customs that are on the verge of being lost. It is the witness of the history and culture of Weishan Lake area, and has the value of sociology, anthropology and folklore.
