Shuo Gu is a unique form of Quyi in Southern Fujian, which is popular in Xiamen and its surrounding areas. It came into being in the middle and late Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 100 years. Talking about the past and discussing the present by using the rich vocabulary, unique rhythm, proverbs, common sayings, anecdotes and ballads of Minnan dialect, so that the audience can naturally master the knowledge of Minnan history, customs and social life while appreciating the art, and play the role of teaching in entertainment, which is deeply welcomed by the local people.

In the early years of the Republic of China, professional ancient speaking artists appeared in Minnan. In the 1920s, the development of ancient Chinese culture reached its peak. Speaking of ancient times, actors hold books or folding fans in their hands and talk about the past and the present vividly. They are eloquent and eloquent, and often interspersed with some Minnan sayings, which are humorous and fascinating.
