Brief introduction to the legend of Khitan ancestor:
Applicant: Pingquan County, Hebei Province
The legend of Khitan ancestor has a long history. According to the survey, Pingquan County has gone through a long process of development, which has been handed down to the present day in the form of oral and psychological instruction. The spreading area is Pingquan County and its surrounding areas. Pingquan County is named after "Pingdi Yongquan". Located at the junction of Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and Hebei, it is a multi-ethnic gathering area with rich folk cultural resources.
The legend of Khitan's ancestor is as follows: a long time ago, a man of God lived in guangtou mountain (formerly known as Mayu mountain) in Liuxi Township, Pingquan County. He rode a white horse down the Laoha River (formerly known as tuhe River) and headed east. One day, a woman lived in a pine forest in the upper reaches of the Xilamulun River (formerly known as the Huanghe River). She drove a green cattle cart down the Xilamulun river. They met at the junction of the two rivers of Muye mountain in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, on the Bank of the Liao River. They fell in love at first sight, married and gave birth to eight sons. Later, the clan gradually flourished, forming the earliest "eight Khitan tribes". All the tribes of them offer sacrifices to their ancestors.
This legend has a great influence in Pingquan. It is believed that the funeral custom of Pingquan male paste white horse and female paste green ox comes from this. This proves that Qidan ancestor was born in Pingquan and plays an irreplaceable role in the study of the origin of Qidan nationality. "Qingniu Baima" may be a kind of totem. Through the study of it, we can further uncover the mystery of funeral customs and enrich the content of folklore.
