Introduction to Hanchuan Shanshu:
Applicant: Hanchuan City, Hubei Province
Hanchuan Shanshu, also known as "wukaiyan", is a popular folk art storytelling variety in Hanchuan, Tianmen, Mianyang, Qianjiang, Xiaogan, etc. It is the most prosperous in Hanchuan, and contains the most profound tradition.
Hanchuan Shanshu was formed in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and evolved from the "oracle" preaching activities in the early Qing Dynasty. The traditional form of performance is one person talking and singing. In the period of the Republic of China, it developed into two or more people talking and singing. Its performance program is divided into "preaching", "speaking", "answering" and "right" and so on. The singing tunes include Da Xuan tune, Xiao Xuan tune, Ya tune, Thoreau tune, angry denounce tune and mourning tune. The more common traditional programs of Hanchuan Shanshu are "dripping blood into beads", "bee juice", "An'an sending rice" and "Jie lie Fang".
Hanchuan Shanshu has encountered unprecedented difficulties in the current inheritance and development. Young artists are cut off, and the tradition is seriously lost, so it is in urgent need of support and protection.
