Huai opera, also known as "Jianghuai opera" and "Huai opera", mainly spread in Northern Jiangsu. Huaian Opera Troupe is the representative troupe of Huaian opera.

The performance of Huai opera comes down in one continuous line with Jianghuai Xianghuo opera evolved from Nuo Wu, which is of typical significance to the study of the origin and development of Chinese local opera. Huaidiao, the basic singing style of Huaiju opera, is accompanied by gongs and drums, forming a systematic structure and standard of starting, inheriting, transferring and combining, which is a major feature of Huaiju opera in the west route and a major feature different from other operas. The language of Huaiju belongs to the northern language family, but it still has the entering rhyme which is not found in the northern language family. It has a unique value for the study of the distribution and evolution of Chinese language. In the key aria of Huaiju opera, after the basic seven character and cross sentence, the use of multiple four character serial sentences, combined with the staccato to the Allegro, shows the emotion gradually excited, and then to the climax, which has a strong emotional effect. The traditional plays often performed include baihutang, shiyilang, Wusong, etc.
