Huashi Town, formerly known as Huashu and Huashi, belongs to Jiangyin City, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It is located in the east of Jiangyin City, with a total area of 74.64 square kilometers. It is one of the birthplaces of township industry in southern Jiangsu. In 2017, there were 158132 permanent residents in Huashi town. By 2019, Huashi town has jurisdiction over 2 communities and 27 administrative villages.

Huashi town has 5000 years of textual research history. It has been a famous town in the south of the Yangtze River since ancient times, and has the reputation of "little Huashu competing with Suzhou". In 2016, the Gross Regional Product of Huashi town was 28 billion yuan, an increase of 11.3% over the previous year, the industrial and commercial invoice sales exceeded 100 billion yuan, the public budget revenue was 1.219 billion yuan, an increase of 30.8% over the previous year, and the investment in fixed assets of the whole society was 4.9 billion yuan.

In October 2018, Huashi town was selected into the list of "top 100 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2018". In 2019, Huashi town was reexamined as a national health county (township).

Historical evolution

In September 1950, Huashu town was established.

In September 1957, Huashu township was established.

In September 1958, Huashu township was changed into Huashu commune, and Huashu town was under its jurisdiction.

In September 1961, Huashu town was changed into a branch of Huashu commune.

In January 1962, Huashu town and Zhili county were reestablished.

In October 1965, the town and society were renamed "Huashi".

In September 1975, Warsaw town was removed and returned to Warsaw commune.

In March 1984, Huashi commune was transformed into Huashi township.

In December 1985, Huashi township was renamed Huashi town.

In June 2001, Huashi town was merged with Luqiao Town, still known as Huashi town.

History and culture

Huashi town has been a famous town in Jiangnan since ancient times, which was called flower market in ancient times. It has gradually evolved into Huashi and Huashu. It is said that it was the place where King Wu Fucha planted flowers. It is also said that it got its name because of its abundant cotton production. It has a profound historical and cultural heritage.

Famous people

Lu Wengui, a medical scientist in Yuan Dynasty, is a master of medicine. He is respected as the originator of Jiangyin traditional Chinese medicine and has written twenty volumes of Qiang Dong Lei draft.

Cheng dan'an (1899-1957), formerly known as Qitong and Qiuwu, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a native of Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province.

Wu xinmou (1910-1989), a mathematician and one of the main founders of the research on partial differential equations in China, established the Research Office of differential equations in the Institute of mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and participated in the compilation of the first textbook on partial differential equations in China.
