Huaihai Middle Road, with a total area of 1.41 square kilometers, starts from Xizang South Road in the East, Chongqing South Road in the west, Jianguo East Road in the South and Jinling East Road in the north. Huaihai middle road street is the political and cultural center of Huangpu District and the seat of the District People's Congress. Historical evolution

Huaihai middle road was divided into French concession in December 1900 and 1914 respectively. During the Japanese occupation, it was once the eighth and first districts. In the 34th year of the Republic of China, the east of Chongqing Road belonged to the Fifth District (Taishan District and Songshan District). The west of Chongqing road belongs to the Sixth District (lujiawan District). At the beginning of liberation, it was the third and fifth Office of lujiawan district. In November 1950, it belonged to the third and fifth offices of Luwan District and the second, fifth, sixth and eighth offices of Songshan District. In March 1956, it belonged to Sinan Road, Huaihai middle road and Changle Road. In July of the same year, it belonged to the two offices of Huaihai middle road and Chengdu South Road. In December 1958, the offices of Chengdu South Road and Huaihai middle road were merged. In April 1960, it was renamed Huaihai street in Chengdu. In June of the same year, it was renamed Huaihai Road Street. In June 1987, it was renamed Huaihai street.

The original river courses of the plot are nanchangbang, beichangbang, datiebang, wangjiabang and mayibang. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, there were villages such as gujiazhai, shengjiazhai, Yangjiazhai and lujiazhai. In the 1920s and 1930s, due to the increasing population in the area and the sharp rise of land price, a large number of new lanes and apartment buildings were rebuilt. The famous ones are sandefang, taicangfang, wanyifang, Taishan apartment, Yongye building, Peiwen apartment, etc. Jinsinan road and Nanchang Road are high-grade residential areas with elegant environment. Most of the residents are rich businessmen, compradors, freelancers, intellectuals, politicians, warlords and so on. Most of them are foreigners, especially the Russian expatriates.

Since the early years of the Republic of China, the revolutionaries took advantage of the special conditions of the French concession to set up revolutionary organs in the area and carry out various revolutionary activities. There are many revolutionary sites and former residences of celebrities. No. 408 Baochang Road (now Huaihai Middle Road), No. 63 Huanlong Road (now Nanchang Road) and No. 29 Moliere Road (now Xiangshan Road) are the three residences of Sun Yat Sen from the 1911 Revolution to his death. Moliere road former residence is now a national cultural relics protection unit, and No. 408 Baochang Road is a district level cultural relics protection unit. Yuyangli No.6, a national cultural relic protection unit, is the former site of the central organ of the Chinese Socialist Youth League. It is closely related to the birth of the Communist Party of China and the early revolutionary activities with the New Youth Department, No.2, old yuyangli (Lane 100, Nanchang Road), a municipal cultural relic protection unit. The former residence of Taofen in wanyifang and the Shanghai executive department of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang during the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party are also under municipal protection. Others, such as the Shanghai General Office of the Chinese revolutionary party at No. 5 old yuyangli, the former site of the Jiangsu provincial Party committee at No. 16 tongfuli, julaida Road, and Datong kindergarten at No. 341 taoerfais Road (now Nanchang Road), are important revolutionary historical sites.
