In 1953, it was Zhaiying Township, Zhentou district.
In 1958, it first belonged to Dongfeng commune and then changed to Zhaiying management area of Zhaotong commune.
In the winter of 1959, it belonged to Hedong branch of Chang'an commune.
In 1961, Zhaiying commune was founded.
In 1965, it was renamed Tan Gu commune.
