Jiefang Road is a section name in Anxi County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, connecting Xinhua Road in the South and 831 road in the north.

Basic information

Jiefang Road is located in Anxi County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, connecting Xinhua Road in the South and 831 road in the north. In the first year of song Baoqing (1225), Yan Zhenzhong, the magistrate of the county, began to open the West Street, with only stone and earth as the gate. Later, the residents built houses one after another along the street and gradually became a street, with a width of only 3-4 meters. The intersection with Zhongshan street is shishikou. The road was originally called Shangxi street and Xiaxi street, of which the north section of shishikou is Shangxi street, and the south section is Xiaxi Street (it is named because it is located in the west of the county).

The origin of the name

On August 31, 1949, when the fourth regiment of the eighth detachment of the Fujian Guangdong Jiangxi border guerrillas liberated the county, it first entered the county through tuiguong Lane (now Ximen Lane 2). In memory of the liberation of the county, it was called Jiefang Road, also known as Jiefang North Road and Jiefang South road. In 1957, Huaqiao theater (later changed to Anxi theater) was built in North Road. In 1963, Shangxi street was reconstructed, and the houses and Xuantan Palace on both sides were demolished. The road surface was widened to 14m, and shops and government units were built on both sides. In 1973, the earth road was changed to cement road. In 1989, due to the aging of the road surface, it was covered with fine stone asphalt. In the same year, the 276m street of Xiaxi street was reconstructed, widened to 13m, and paved with cement pavement. in 1999, the wholesale complex building of the county pharmaceutical company was rebuilt, with a construction area of 3460 square meters. During the infrastructure construction, it retreated 4 meters to the west, leaving space for the road to be widened to 18 meters in the future. At the north end of the road are the County Stadium and the world Anxi Village friendship building. Among them, Lianyi building was decided to be built in Anxi County in October 1994 when the second world Anxi rural Friendship Conference was held; in December 1996, the former building of the returned overseas Chinese Federation in Anxi County was demolished and started construction at the original site. The building covers an area of 750 square meters, with a height of 60.56 meters and a construction area of 10500 square meters. It was completed in November 1997. When the third world Anxi rural Friendship Conference was held, Tian Jiyun, vice premier of the State Council, specially named the world Anxi rural friendship building. The road is one of the most prosperous commercial streets in the county. In 2003, the original department store was demolished in shishikou and the Manhattan building was built.
