Dongping town

Dongping Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northwest of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, 14 kilometers away from the county. The town covers an area of 332.97 square kilometers, integrating Yao District, mountainous area, reservoir area and ecological development area. In 2018, Dongping town had 12914 registered residence population. As of June 2020, Dongping town has 1 community and 10 administrative villages.

Dongping town was formed by the merger of Longnan town and Dongping town in May 2005. Dongping town is one of the three Yao towns in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County. The Yao population accounts for 54.99% of the total population. Beijing Zhuhai Expressway, national highway 323, provincial highway S258 and pingru highway run through.

In 2018, Dongping town had 31 industrial enterprises and 4 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.

Historical evolution

In 1983, it was Dongping district and Longnan District.

In 1986, it was changed to Dongping Township and Longnan township.

In 1993, Longnan withdrew the township and built a town.

In 1994, Dongping town was built from township.

It was abolished and merged into Longping town in 2005.

In 1996, Dongping town governed Changxi, Dongtian, Xincun, Chaping and Xiazhai; Longnan town governed Fangwu, nanshai, tangpen, Xinjian and Tixia.

As of June 2020, Dongping town has 1 community and 10 administrative villages: Longhu community, Dongtian village, Changxi village, Xincun village, Chaping village, Xiazhai village, nanshai village, Fangwu village, tangpen village, Longxi village and Tixia village.

Dongping town is located in the northwest of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, with an administrative area of 332.97 square kilometers. Dongping town nestles on the Bank of nanshai lake, the third largest reservoir and famous scenic spot in Guangdong Province. It has a strip of water in the East with Bibei and Youxi towns, Rucheng town in the south, Luoyang Town in the West and Daqiao town in the north.

In Dongping Town, high quality fish such as Megalobrama amblycephala are cultivated. Nanshui Megalobrama amblycephala is a special product of Ruyuan County in Shaoguan City. It is produced in Nanshui reservoir and Hengxi reservoir of Ruyuan County in Shaoguan City. It is a high-quality freshwater fish introduced and domesticated by the Department of biology of South China Normal University and the Fisheries Bureau of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County from 1989 to 1991. Nanshaihu National Wetland Park in Ruyuan, Guangdong

Guangdong Ruyuan nanshai Lake National Wetland Park is located in Dongping Town, 16 kilometers southwest of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, mainly including nanshai lake and its surrounding areas, with a total planning area of 6283.7 hectares. On August 8, 2012, the Management Office of Ruyuan nanshaihu Wetland Park in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County was officially put into operation. The water area of nanshai reservoir in the wetland park is 57000 mu, with a storage capacity of 1.25 billion cubic meters. The average water depth is 45 meters, and the deepest reaches 120 meters.
