Dongba Street

Dongba street belongs to Gaochun District of Nanjing City, which is located in the east of Gaochun district. It is a "hundred famous towns" and "hometown of characteristic culture" in Jiangsu Province. It is listed as the key center town of small town construction in Jiangsu Province by the provincial government. Dongba has a good ecological environment, located at the junction of Jiangsu and Anhui, 25 kilometers away from the seat of the district government, adjacent to Langxi County, Anhui Province.

As of 2017, Dongba street has an area of 104.3 square kilometers, a population of 45700, and manages 7 neighborhood committees and 5 village committees.

Historical evolution

Dongba street is an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River with a long history. It was named Yinlin in the Five Dynasties.

In 1392, a stone gate was built on the Xuhe River in the town to stop the water flowing to the East and protect the Taihu Lake area from floods. Because it is located in the east of Gucheng Lake, it is also called Dongba. It has a history of more than 600 years and is one of the "100 famous towns" in Jiangsu Province.

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Dongba town had a superior geographical location and convenient land and water transportation. It was an ancient horse and cart post station with merchants gathered, so it was known as the "thoroughfare of seven provinces".

In 2002, it was rated as "city level small town with beautiful environment" by Nanjing, and strive to create "Jiangsu provincial small town with beautiful environment".

In 2005, Dongba street was named "hometown of characteristic culture" by Jiangsu Provincial Department of culture.

On January 28, 2019, Jiangsu provincial government issued the "reply on agreeing to adjust some administrative divisions of Gaochun District in Nanjing City". Qiqiao Town, Dongba Town, Yaxi town and Gucheng town in Gaochun district were abolished and Qiqiao street, Dongba street, Yaxi street and Gucheng street were established respectively.

Transportation

Shuangwang highway passes through the border from north to south, and Wutai highway passes through the border from east to west along Guxu river. Xiaba shiplock is the only way for water transportation to reach the Yangtze River in the West and Taihu Lake in the East, and it is an economic corridor connecting Southern Jiangsu and southern Anhui. S239 and S123 cross in the territory, reaching the main city of Nanjing in the north, Anhui and Zhejiang in the south, suxichang in the East and Wuhu in the West. Wushen canal (Xuhe) and s239 Gaochun Section of the fifth grade waterway intersect in the street center in a parallel line.

History and culture

Dongba street is famous for its grand lantern, ancient stage, Taiping Heavenly Kingdom site and Xuhe river.

In 2006, Dongba lantern, a "unique Jiangnan" lantern, was listed in the intangible cultural heritage list of Jiangsu Province. In cooperation with the municipal and district cultural bureaus, Dongba Street government has declared Dongba lantern as a national intangible cultural heritage protection project.

As the birthplace of Dongba lantern, Dongba village, Dongba street, under the guidance of the District Cultural Bureau, has strengthened the protection of Dongba lantern, integrated folk cultural resources, and strived to create a characteristic cultural village. To this end, Dongba village committee unifies its thinking and takes positive actions.

First, the dragon lantern performance team and water dragon boat performance team will be set up with Dongba grand lantern performance team as the leader to fully display the folk culture of the village. Second, the village committee of Dongba village raised 400000 yuan from the people to open up more than 10 mu of mountainous area and establish a folk performing arts base. Among them, Dongba grand lantern performance square covers an area of about 2 mu. At the same time, a 100 square meter exhibition hall for the performing arts of Dongba lantern has been built for people to visit. The construction of the folk performing arts base in Dongba village is not only an important part of building a characteristic cultural village, but also a new bright spot in the construction of a new socialist countryside in Dongba street.

Guided by the scientific outlook on development, Dongba street has achieved all-round economic and social development with the goal of "economically strong town, industrial town and cultural town". In 2003, the GDP of Dongba street was 356 million yuan, and the total output value of industry and agriculture was 885.72 million yuan, including 173.89 million yuan of agricultural output value, 711.83 million yuan of industrial output value, and 39.55 million yuan of financial revenue. The per capita income reached 4793 yuan. Dongba street has a grain area of 38000 mu, with a total output of more than 20 million kg; a rapeseed area of 40000 mu, with a total output of more than 8 million kg; and a vegetable area of 25800 mu (multiple cropping area). There are 7346 mu of useful timber forest and 5992 mu of economic forest in Dongba street. Dongba Street develops 2.8 million square feet of mushrooms and more than 3800 mu of Zaoyuan bamboo. In 2006, Dongba Street achieved a GDP of 1.079 billion yuan, a total financial revenue of 51.28 million yuan, and a per capita income of 6883 yuan for farmers.

Dongba street is a big agricultural town with rich natural resources and developed land and water transportation. Rice, rape and vegetables are mainly planted in the paddy field of Dongba street, while rape, economic fruits, soybean, potato, pumpkin, corn and minor cereals are mainly planted in the dry land. The yield of rape is the highest in China. Dried bean curd, shredded radish and balsam pear tea are well-known in China. Dongba street is a hilly area with a total cultivated area of 42322 mu. In the whole year, 38000 mu of rice, 40000 mu of rape and 25800 mu of vegetables are planted. The main characteristics are the cultivation of high-quality rape, Zaoyuan bamboo, mushroom, economic fruit, potato, soybean and pumpkin. Among them, high-quality rape is well-known in China and is a high-quality rape base in China. There are 60 township enterprises in Dongba street, including dried tofu, dried radish, shredded radish, balsam pear tea, tea processing and other enterprises, whose products are in short supply.
