Maqiao town

Maqiao town is located in the west of Rucheng County, bounded by Luyang town in the East, Yanshou Yao Township and Quanshui town in the south, Wenming Yao Township and Huangcao town in Zixing City in the west, and Nuanshui town in the north. The town has a total area of 198.18 square kilometers (2017) and a total population of 30923 (2017).

Evolution of organizational system

Maqiao town is named after the town government's residence in Maqiao market. In Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Changning township of Guiyang County. In 1919, it belonged to the West First District of Rucheng County. In 1941, it belonged to Changning township of Rucheng County. In 1950, it belonged to the eighth District of Rucheng County. Tuanjie people's commune was established in 1958 and divided into Maqiao people's commune in 1961 Maqiao town was established by the merger of township and Waisha township. In 2016, the number of organic villages was reduced by 8. in 2012, the original Waisha Township and Maqiao Township were merged into Maqiao town through the re division, merger and reorganization of administrative regions.
