Meilong town

Meilong Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Haifeng County, Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, is located in the southwest of Haifeng County, 16 kilometers away from Haifeng County and 45 kilometers away from Shanwei City. Lianan town in the East, Houmen town and chishi town in the west, Lianhua Mountain in the north and Honghai Bay in the south. The coastline is 14 km long, with a total area of 152.25 square kilometers. By the end of 2018, Meilong town had a total of 5 communities and 31 administrative villages with a permanent resident population of 135000.

Meilong is named for the fact that Meilong polder is a kind of Shalong which looks like "fallen plum". It has always been the political, economic and cultural center in the southwest of Haifeng.

In 2019, the total industrial and agricultural output value of Meilong town will reach 9 billion yuan, and the industrial output value will reach 7.9 billion yuan, including 4.39 billion yuan of industrial output value and 1.1 billion yuan of agricultural output value.

Historical evolution

It is said that meilongwei is the place of "fallen plum". The head of the plum tree is in Meifeng mountain, the tail of the tree is in meichong mountain, and there is a sand ridge in the middle, which looks like fallen plum. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Zou and Cai were called "Meilong" when they built houses on the East and west sides of Shalong. It is also said that meichong mountain is similar to Mei mountain, and there is a sand ridge at the foot of the mountain, so it is called "Meilong".

From the Qin Dynasty to the early Han Dynasty, Meilong belonged to BOLUO County, Nanhai county.

In the sixth year of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (331), Dongguan county was set up, and Haifeng County belongs to Dongguan county.

In the early years of the Republic of China (1912), Haifeng was subordinate to Guangdong chaoxun. In 1930, it was subordinate to the office of the fourth administrative inspector general of Guangdong Province.

In 1957, the district level system was abolished, and Meilong was changed to township system, which was directly under the jurisdiction of Haifeng County.

In 1958, Meilong township was withdrawn to establish people's commune, and Meilong township was changed into Meilong people's commune.

In March 1984, the commune system was abolished and Meilong town was established.

Lantern parade

Lantern parade is a folk custom in Meilong town. Lantern parade activities are organized by the leaders of three folk societies in the East, West and east of Meilong town. Folk houses

The village layout of Meilong town is mainly comb type and fortress type.
