Dongjiao town

Dongjiao Town, subordinate to Wenchang City, Hainan Province, is located in the southeast coast of Wenchang City, adjacent to Nanhai in the south, bamenwan in the north, Wenjiao town and Longlou town in the East, and the main urban area of Wenchang City across the sea in the west, with a total administrative area of 94.18 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, the eastern suburb had 50552 registered residence.

Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was an eastern suburb. In 1950, it was changed into Nanhai township. In 1951, it belonged to the Second District of Wenchang county (Qinglan District). In 1957, it belonged to Dongjiao township. In 1983, it was changed to Dongjiao district. In 1986, it was established as a town. As of June 2020, Dongjiao town has one community and 15 administrative villages.

In 2016, the GDP of Dongjiao town was about 1.47 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 6%.

Evolution of organizational system

In the year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, a fortress was built on the wharf. The eastern suburb was located in the east of the city, which was also called Nanhai city before liberation. When the Japanese invaded Hainan, they moved to the market in the west, which is called Xinshi. After liberation, they made a detour to rebuild the market in the East.
