In 1949, the Tenth District of Gannan county was established.

In 1956, it was divided into two townships, Jubao and Gongnong.

In 1958, Jubao and Gongnong were merged into Jubao commune.

In 1980, Jubao commune was transformed into Jubao township.

In 1999, Jubao township was transformed into Jubao town.
