Mingyue township was established in 1908, the commune was changed in 1958, the township was restored in 1984, and the town was established in 1992. In 1997, with an area of 49.2 square kilometers and a population of 33000, it has jurisdiction over 22 administrative villages including Mingyue, Zhuhe, daijiazui, renhezhai, shiyuanzi, changtiankan, shizhuanshan, baihezui, sanhetuan, Xindianzi, Guozi, zhengjiazui, tuowan, Guanyinyan, Tongbao, tuxi, dingtiao, Shuikoushan, Hongguang, Tuantian, liujiamiao, xiongjiaqiao and Mingyue neighborhood committee. On September 28, 2004, the people's Government of Sichuan Province (No. 47 document of Sichuan civil administration) approved that the administrative areas of five villages in Mingyue Town, namely, Guozi village, Tongbao village, zhengjiazui village, Guanyinyan village and tuxi village, should be incorporated into Shuanghe town. After the adjustment, the town covers an area of 38.2 square kilometers, governs 17 administrative villages and 1 community, with a population of 30500, including 7100 non-agricultural population.
