Banshi town is surrounded by mountains, belonging to the Longgang mountains of Changbai Mountain, with undulating mountains and ravines. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, and the whole area is poplar leaf like. It is about 15 kilometers long from north to South and 10 kilometers wide from east to west. Banshi town is located at an altitude of 650 meters, with an average altitude of 859.2 meters, belonging to the alpine mountainous area.

River Hydrology

There are three rivers in the town: Banshigou River, zhenzhumen River and Shangqing river. It flows for 10-15 kilometers and finally flows into Hunjiang River. 1.5km to the south of Zhenzhu village, there is a natural clear spring with pure water quality and abundant water. The daily flow can reach 1.5kt, which has been protected as the water source of the whole city.

Banshigou river originates from ShiBeiling at the junction of Banshi town and Liangshui town of Liuhe County, with a total length of about 15 kilometers and flows into Hunjiang River. Banshi river is three to five meters wide with an average flow of 0.035 cubic meters per second and a maximum flow of 0.485 cubic meters per second.

Zhenzhumen river originates from Xigou, flows through diaoshui village and joins Banshi River, with a total length of 10 kilometers. 1.5km to the south of zhenzhumen village, there is a natural daqingquan with pure water and abundant water. The daily flow is 1.5 thousand tons, which has been protected. As the water source of the whole city, there is a water source protection zone with 640 hectares. Farming and grazing are prohibited in the protection zone.

Shangqing river originates at the foot of shiqinggouli mountain in the fourth group of Shangqing, flows through Shangdianzi village of Hekou Township, and joins Hunjiang River. It is 10 km long and about 5 m wide, and its flow is similar to Banshigou river.

It belongs to the continental monsoon climate of north temperate zone. The temperature is long and cold in winter and short and hot in summer. The sunshine hours are 2360 hours, and the annual average precipitation is 640mm.

It belongs to dark brown soil, mainly forest soil and albic soil. There is a small amount of alluvial soil in the lower reaches of Banshi River, and the forest area is mostly humus soil, which is relatively fertile. However, due to the high mountains and steep slopes, soil erosion is serious, and the land is decreasing year by year. Most of the land is not suitable for farming, and has been converted to forest year by year.
