Santaoshi Street

Santiaoshi sub district office is located in the triangle area where Ziya River and South Canal join into Haihe River, east to Luanhe Water Diversion Monument (sanchahekou), West to the center line of xizhanqian street, north to the South Bank of Ziya River, south of Jinpu railway line and south to the North Bank of South Canal. It covers an area of 1.37 square kilometers, with 8 community neighborhood committees and a comprehensive demolition community group, with a population of 19255 (2010). In history, the South Canal used to be an important transportation route between the north and the south. Due to its unique geographical environment and the development of mechanical casting industry, it has become a prosperous place of modern industry and trade in China. It is known as the birthplace of national industry and the cradle of industry in North China.

Historical evolution

In May 1956, Tianjin Municipal People's Committee merged 28 sub district offices into 17 sub district offices, from which santiaoshi sub district office was established. In 1960, the Tianjin Municipal People's Committee merged the Hongqiao District sub district office into six people's communes, from which the santaoshi people's commune was established, implementing the integration of government and society. In 1961, the government and the commune were set up separately, with the establishment of santaoshi street and santaoshi people's commune. In October 1962, the Tianjin Municipal People's Committee abolished the santaoshi people's Commune and restored the establishment of santaoshi sub district office. In 1969, there were three stone street revolutionary committees. In 1978, the three stone street Revolutionary Committee was abolished and the three stone street office was restored, which is still in use today.
