Xiangyang town is located in the south of Tongjiang City, 4.5km away from the municipal government. The township government is located in Xiangyang village. It has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages and 16 natural villages, covering an area of 226.5 square kilometers, with a population of 11275 (including 9800 labor force population) and a cultivated land of 239100 mu. National Highway 221 and national railway Fuxian (Tongjiang Xiangyangchuan section) run through the western part of the rural area. Songhua River and Lianhua River pass through the rural area. There are abundant water resources and large wetland area. The ecological environment is good. It is one of the great plain agricultural villages in our city.

"Xiangyang" was named in 1910, when the local rich family Jinshui and Zhang Guowei set up Datong deken company. In 1966, the people's commune was established, and in 1984, the people's commune was cancelled and renamed Xiangyang Township. On March 29, 2005, the people's Government of Heilongjiang Province (No. 29, Heimin District) approved that Liming Village (excluding Friendship Village), Tongxing Village (including prospect Village) and Tongfu village under the jurisdiction of former Qianwei township should be put under the jurisdiction of Xiangyang Township.
