Shangkan Township

Shangkan township is located in the southwest of Fangxian County, 85 kilometers away from the county, with a total area of 355.1 square kilometers (2017). It is connected with Shennongjia forest region in the East, Zhongba Township in the west, Jiudao Township in the south, and mengusi town and yangchashan forest farm in the north. The township now governs 8 villages, 23 villager groups and 5983 people (in 2017).

Historical evolution

At the beginning of liberation, it was under the jurisdiction of Zhongba district. Later, it was changed into shangkan district (District 11). In 1958, it was changed into a commune. In 1961, it was restored. In 1970, it was transferred into Shennongjia forest area. In 1975, it was transferred into Menggu commune. Cangping, Huanglong, Shuanglong, Huxi, Erhuang, Baiyu commune and shangkan commune were merged into shangkan commune. In 1987, it was set up as a township.

It has jurisdiction over eight village committees: fanjiaya, cangping, Baiyu, Huanglong, Shuanglong, Huxi, Erhuang and Jingzhu, with a population of 10917 and an area of 355 square kilometers.

agricultural production

Mainly corn, wheat and potato.

specialty

It is the main producing area of wood, lacquer and medicinal materials in Fangxian County, producing more than 500 kinds of medicinal materials such as Coptis chinensis, Gastrodia elata, musk and Panax notoginseng.

There are tigers, black and white bears, monkeys, giant salamanders, wild boars, antelopes and other rare wild animals.
