Dongcheng Town is located in the north end of Wangcheng District, adjacent to tongguanyao in the south, Xiangyin in the north and Xiangshui in the West. The Xiangjiang River with an average width of about 1000 meters encircles the West and north sides of Dongcheng Town and flows from south to north to Xiangyin County, forming a natural and obvious administrative boundary with tiejiaozui town in Xiangyin County of Yueyang City on the northwest bank. Only 22 kilometers away from the urban area, there is a long Hunan high-grade highway, convenient transportation. The town has a total area of 56 square kilometers, including 17876 mu of paddy field, 1947 mu of dry soil, 11265 mu of forest land and 26000 mu of water area. It has jurisdiction over 7 villages and 1 community neighborhood committee with a total population of 19038.

Dongcheng Town is a semi hilly and semi embankment area (suyuanyuan), with an average annual temperature of 16.9 ℃ and a pleasant climate. It is the edge area of 800 Li Dongting. The Xiangjiang River is 14.82 kilometers around the Suliao embankment. There are beautiful tielu lake and Huanglong river with a long history in the town. In addition, there are nearly ten thousand mu of water surface, rich in aquatic products. The town's arable land area of nearly 40000 mu, rich in rice, is a typical "land of fish and rice.". The natural scenery in the town is beautiful, with blue sky and white clouds, clear water as a mirror, fish and shrimp playing, lotus leaf fragrance and rice fragrance; in the hilly area, there are green trees, flowers, colorful butterflies, birds, wild animals, and harmonious development between man and nature. In 2005, the per capita disposable income of Dongcheng Town was 3800 yuan, the gross national product was 280 million yuan, of which the total agricultural output value was 61.78 million yuan. The total revenue was 9.995 million yuan. There are 7 crab breeding bases, including dongzha middle school, flower breeding base, and one kindergarten in Dongcheng Town. There is also Suliao embankment, the second largest embankment in Changsha City, which is designated as "pearl mussel breeding base in Wangcheng County" and "agricultural demonstration base for disaster avoidance in Wangcheng County". At the end of 2002, in the ecological planning of Changsha City, Polygonum hydropiper embankment was designated as biodiversity conservation area and wetland conservation area.
