Gaoming prison of Guangdong Province is located in Gaoming District of Foshan City in the northwest of the Pearl River Delta. It covers an area of 5.8 square kilometers, adjacent to Xijiang River in the East and 70 kilometers away from Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province.

Gaoming prison was founded in September 1957, formerly known as "the 26th labor reform and education team of Guangdong Province". In February 1995, it was renamed "Gaoming prison of Guangdong Province" with the approval of the provincial government. It is under department level system, with 20 departments and 15 prison districts.
